The old joke was that you had to burn a vacation day to get your Massachusetts drivers license renewed, because of long waits at Registry offices. Thanks to shrewd use of the internet, the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) has pretty much put all those jokes to rest.

Today, the RMV’s clean, easy-to-navigate web site helps visitors understand all the steps involved in many RMV transactions, and often eliminates the need for a trip to a Registry office altogether.

The RMV site is comprised of four major sections.

How Do I? - answers just about any procedural question from license and registration renewal to application questions to paying tickets to scheduling a road test. In this section, it is also possible to learn how to request an accident report, convert an out-of-state drivers license, and sign up for Fast Lane.

Quick Links - provides information on a variety of subjects including RMV branch offices, disability parking regulations, commercial vehicle operation, motorcycle drivers, and more.

Forms and Manuals - all RMV forms and manuals are available in a downloadable, PDF format in this section.

RMV in the News - links to RMV and MassDOT news articles are listed in this section, some in press release format, others in a downloadable format.

In addition to the four major sections, the RMV site contains a blog, video links, social media connections, and a list of tweets the agency has issued.

Thanks to the RMV’s well-constructed web site, you can save a vacation day or two - for you.
